FAQs

Yes, Greenergy was founded in early 1992 by Andrew Owens, now Chairman. We are registered in England and Wales and are listed in the Sunday Times Top Track as Britain’s second largest private company by sales .
We supply fuel in the UK, Ireland, Canada and Brazil. Our customers include major oil companies, supermarkets, fleet users such as bus and logistics companies, independent forecourt operators and fuel resellers.

Greenergy was founded in the early 1990s to supply low emission diesel which offers significant air quality benefits, and the company name dates back to that time. Over time we have expanded from niche environmental products and today supply standard specification petrol and diesel to a much wider market.

In our operations today we continue to focus on minimising the environmental impact of our activities. For example we:

  • Work continually to assess and manage environmental risk in all parts of our business. For more information on environmental risk,?click here >

  • Maximise our use of biodiesel made from waste products. We own and operate three of Europe’s largest biodiesel production facilities converting large quantities of waste oils and fats into biodiesel. For more information about our biodiesel manufacturing,?click here >

  • Set ourselves a 70% carbon saving from the biofuel we blend into our petrol and diesel – much higher than the 50% saving required by law,?click here?>??

Greenergy operates as a “midstream supplier”, moving fuel products from the refinery gate (wherever that may be in the world) to fuel filling stations and customer sites in the UK, Ireland, Canada and Brazil. Greenergy is not a retail brand and you won't see it on any retail stations.

In the UK, we have an in-house haulage operation called Greenergy Flexigrid which operates primarily in Flexigrid livery or in our customers' brands. Flexigrid is our logistics brand, allowing us to separate fuel supply from service provision. More about Greenergy Flexigrid >

We own three service stations in Ireland and two in Canada, but the overwhelming majority of our fuel sales are to supermarkets and oil companies who operate and market under their own brands.

For independent forecourt operators, who operate as brand franchisees, we have different branded fuel supply offers for our various markets:

  • In the UK we are a Branded Wholesaler for Esso, allowing us to offer fuel supply under the Esso brand to independent operators (often known as dealers) across the UK.?

  • In Ireland, we own Inver Energy, the country's fastest-growing forecourt brand and are now offering it to our customers in the UK and Canada.?

  • In Canada, we have developed Breakaway, an exciting new hockey-themed brand tailored to the local market.?

We are using our understanding of fuel markets and our experience as an infrastructure user to develop strategically important assets that support our long-term supply objectives.

Our infrastructure investments include:?

  • Sophisticated petrol blending systems at three terminals in the UK, giving us the ability to reduce our petrol costs and supply petrol meeting customer-specific requirements.?

  • Conversion of a former oil refinery to create Thames Oilport, a modern import terminal, giving us supply chain efficiencies and a second import terminal for improved supply resiliency for customers in the south east of England.?Learn more about our supply infrastructure in the UK >

  • Innovative rail-to-road supply facilities in Canada, creating supply at new locations that are convenient for our customers and bringing greater supply security to the market. Learn more about our supply infrastructure in Canada >?

  • Regeneration of legacy infrastructure at Plymouth in the UK and Thunder Bay in Canada, to create modern facilities to meet regional demand.? ?
